Privacy Policy
UbuntuRN ("we", "us") provides a mobile learning app for nursing students and this website. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. The short version: we collect what we need to run the app, we don't sell your data, and you can delete your account and data at any time.
Information we collect
- Account information. When you create an account we collect your email address and name (via email sign-up or Google Sign-In), plus optional profile details you add, such as your nursing program, school year, NCLEX target date, and profile photo.
- Learning activity. Lesson progress, quiz and practice-question results, streaks, mastery and readiness scores — this is what makes progress tracking work.
- Community content. Posts, comments, and messages you share in UbuntuConnect (community feed, study sessions, direct messages), and wellness check-ins you choose to share.
- Subscription status. Whether your subscription is active, handled through Apple App Store or Google Play billing and our payments partner RevenueCat. We never see or store your card details.
- Device information. A push-notification token if you enable notifications, and basic device data needed to operate the app.
- Waitlist. If you join the waitlist on this website, we store the email address you submit.
How we use it
- To provide the app: sync your progress, match study partners, deliver community features, and remember where you left off.
- To manage your subscription and free trial.
- To send notifications you've opted into (study reminders, messages, session alerts) — you can turn these off in the app or in your device settings.
- To email waitlist members about launch and access. No marketing spam.
- To keep the community safe, including enforcing our community guidelines.
What we share
We do not sell your personal information. We share data only with the service providers that run UbuntuRN:
- Supabase — our database and authentication provider, where your account and app data are stored.
- RevenueCat — subscription management. Receives an anonymized user ID and purchase status from the app stores.
- Apple / Google — payment processing for subscriptions, per their own privacy policies.
- Expo — push-notification delivery, if you enable notifications.
We may also disclose information if required by law.
What other users see
Your display name, profile photo, and the content you post in community areas are visible to other UbuntuRN users. Your learning progress and scores are private to you. Direct messages are visible to you and the recipient.
Data retention and deletion
We keep your data while your account is active. You can delete your account from the app's profile settings, which removes your personal data from our systems; community posts may be anonymized rather than deleted to preserve conversations. To have your email removed from the waitlist, contact us.
Security
Data is encrypted in transit, stored with a reputable cloud provider, and protected by access controls (row-level security) so users can only access their own data.
Children
UbuntuRN is intended for nursing students and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, export, or delete your personal information. Contact us and we'll honor these requests.
Changes
If we make material changes to this policy, we'll update the date above and notify you in the app.
